Berchidda (324 m. above sea level) is a village in the heart of Sardinia, known for its gastronomy, wine Vermentino "Giogantinu" and "Time in Jazz Festival".
Located at the foot of the Limbara Mountains (between Logudoro and Gallura) on a steep slope, the village Berchidda goes in the highest part towards a dense pine forest, where you can admire the valley and discover the village: the buildings huddled along the steep streets in the oldest part (upstream), the square with the churches and the town hall, the public buildings and neoclassical and liberty palaces (in the middle), and finally the small villas with gardens and the wider and regular roads (downstream).
The main square is a beautiful vantage point over the valley and the peak of Mount Acuto with the ruins of the castle.
The territory of Berchidda is inhabited since prehistoric times. Until 1272 it was part of the Curatoria of Ogianu (with Oschiri) in the Giudicato of Torres; It was later ruled by the judge of Arborea.
After the Catalan-Aragonese conquest and its change into a feud, its history was linked to the events of Olivia lordship, like the rest of Mount Acuto, until 1843.
As before, Berchidda's economy is based on agro-pastoral activities, which, however, now point to the processing of products (wine cooperative "Giogantinu", milk factory "La berchiddese", oil mill). Traditional crafts (using iron, wood and cork) also found new impetus.
The services, especially tourism and hospitality industry, have received a boost from the cultural and entertainment produced in the country, first of all the international festival "Time in Jazz", now in its 33rd edition.
